General Properties
Alloy 405 is a 12% chromium stainless steel designed to be used in the as-welded condition. Unlike the other grades of 12% chromium stainless, 405 is not vulnerable to extensive hardening through air cooling from high temperatures.

Corrosion Resistance
1、Same corrosion resistance of Type 410 Steel
2、Used in situations where more weldability is desired than Type 410
3、Machinability
4、Type 405 can be easily machined due to its soft and ductile characteristics
Weldability
1、Can be welded using shielded fusion and resistance techniques
2、Oxyacetylene is not recommended
3、Post weld annealing will maximize ductility
Applications:
Applications that frequently use alloy 405 include, but are not limited to:
1、Steam nozzles
2、Partitions
3、Annealing boxes
4、Quenching racks
5、Fabrications that cannot be annealed after welding
