MX01 is a steel grade especially developed to achieve specific properties useful to minimize operating cost of forging dies.
The chemical balance of MX01 is designed to achieve improved mechanical properties and die resistance to indentation and wear. The high mechanical properties are maintained at high temperature thanks to an excellent softening resistance. The global die life time will be extended by preserving the dimensional integrity of die cavities and forged pieces on a longer duration than conventional grades.
Hardness and mechanical properties are very consistent throughout dies even in the center of heavy blocks, thanks to Boron addition ensuring an efficient the hardening.
Toughness is also a strong point of MX01. This property is linked also to the chemistry of the grade ensuring a fine distribution of carbides in the matrix. Toughness will provide a good resistance to all phenomena such as chipping, cracking or even failures on the die in hot condition but also during calibration at room temperature.
